It's A Hard Knock Life for Harm!

His adopted sister isn't that vengeful, is she? Or perhaps she wanted an younger sister?

I was going to write something up here, but I just found out one of our family members has passed away, which is why I'm posting it earlier than usual. I have to head out to console others. I still wanted to post this so people will have something new to see. I'm fine, and this was sort of expected. I'll be back again with another caption on Thursday most likely.

I was hoping that the mirror reflection was enough to give Helena a good idea of what she'll look like when the perm is done .. but REALLY show all the details about what is being done to his hair!

Feel free to talk about the caption and perhaps what comes next for Helena in the comments!

  1. Sorry for your loss Dee, even if it was expected it's still a life-jarring experience!!!
As for the cap.....well it is a hard knock life and just wait till all those chemicals take their full effect!!!!
I wonder if he'll lose the pupils in his eyes....that always weirded me out in the comic strip back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth....

    1. I probably would have mentioned the hollow blank eyes in the writeup if I had done a normal blog post.

Having had a perm once in my life .. my mother said either "cut your long hair off or get it permed!" figuring I would cut my hair. I went the other route .. it takes forever for your hair to really loosen up afterwards and I had gotten a spiral perm I believe.

Thank you for the condolences. there is sort of an irony in that I am going away for the weekend into the area where the person lived, and we were going to visit her. The trip was more for pleasure, now it's a bit of a mix because I think they'll be having her funeral on one of the days we are there.

  3. My condolences, Dee. It can be a hard thing to lose someone in your circles, even if if you see it coming.

Love this cap, the story, the picture, the whole setting, just marvelous.

As for the continuation of the cap:

*With a head full of rollers, I didn't get much sleep, and I was grumpy when my sister woke me up singing "...ver quite knew, that something was someone. But who?" Then yelling "I missed the little sister, that's now you."
I was literally dragged out of my bed, and still not fully awake when I was seated in front of the mirror again, and my sister started to work on my hair immediately. when the rollers were out I did have an uncanny resemblance with an auburn haired Annie and gulped. "No way." I howled. "I'm not leaving the house looking like this. Giving me a girlish hairstyle is one thing, but making me look like I walked out of a musical is way worse than any teasing I ever did to you."
"Relax lil sis, I'm not done yet." my sister said while continuing to work on my hair. I ignored her remark about me being her little sister, and again I couldn't stay awake.

"Wakey wakey sleepyhead" my sister whispered softly in my ear. "We only have half an hour to get you dressed for church."
I was stunned when I saw my reflection in the mirror. A lovely girl looked back at me. "Oh wow, I look pretty, and how did you manage to get all those curls to look like this. This hairstyle is amazing. Wait, my face, am I wearing makeup. I want to be mad at you sis, but that wouldn't be fair because it would be an act. I love what you did, and I wish I could stay this way. Please don't tell mum and dad, I'm afraid what they will say."

"Sweetie, we already know, or at least we guessed. You were not as careful as you thought when you borrowed mum and my clothes. the only thing we need to know is, do you want to be a girl, or do you like dress up as one. Either way I would love to have you as my sister, full time or part time."
I was speechless when I hugged her, tears in my eyes. "It's a good thing I used waterproof makeup on you sweetie" said my sister as she began to sing "You're never fully dressed without a smile."*

In real life I never had a perm, but was blessed with a natural curl that was the envy of my sisters when we still lived at home. But even with that, sometimes I set rollers myself. It's amazing what you can achieve with rollers, a blow dryer and some styling mousse a comb and a brush.

    1. Thanks Helena!

And wonderful conclusion to the story! Lots of fun and acceptance, and you even wrapped it up in a bow with another Annie reference at the end! You rock!
