Safe and Sound .. please pray for the safety of those in Boston

Wanted to let everyone know that everyone I know in Boston is accounted for and safe. I live an hour away from Boston, but know many people who work there and/or are also marathon runners. My GF does occasional work there but they were closed for the day due to the Marathon and Red Sox game on Patriot's Day. My daughter is currently thinking about attending a college in Boston when she graduates high school. Its a great city, and probably one of the worst to have a crisis in. There are only a few real ways to get in or out of the city and every street seems to intersect other streets in a random pattern. Any yet, the police seem to be doing a wonderful job helping those hurt, keeping the peace and allaying people's fears.

Thoughts and prayers are needed and hopefully they'll hunt down the bastards that did this so they'll face real justice. Really fucking pointless destruction. People should be building commonalities instead of breeding distrust.

"Reports of Marathon Runners that crossed finish line and continued to run to Mass General Hospital to give blood to victims #PrayforBoston, via NBC Sports Network."
Most people are civilized and I thank those that RAN TOWARDS the explosion to help those who were affected. Maybe the human race does have the potential for goodness and decency.

UPDATE:
Thanks to everyone that PMed me on the Haven, emailed or left a message on Yahoo IM. Once again, I am fine and everyone I know is safe. I will be back tomorrow with normal postings.

  1. Glad to hear your safe! I heard that they found two more bombs and that one more had went off recently at jfk. I'll be praying for all of those affected by this tragedy. I hope they find out who ever was behind this.

  4. People that do this have no appreciation of Life. Our Prayers for the victims and their families. Sadly this can happen anywhere in a free society. The price we all pay.

  5. Not really what I want to read in a blogspot post that I visit ; however I definitely concur with your sentiment. I would urge caution against pointing fingers against any one ethnic group in Boston and across this nation. I recall the Oklahoma City Bombing and lots of people said, " It's those godda**m arabs that done it , let's get them! " ! Wrong it was a lone nut and an anti-government fanatic to boot ! ; yet people across America were hunting for Arab-Americans to hassle or kill ! Those that did this will be caught and punished accordingly. Being ex-military myself, I suspect terrorists either foreign or domestic as being responsible ; a "Lone-Wolf ". Someone inspired by Al-Queda or some group like it, who decided to do this on their own. If that is the case, we all have a lot of work to eliminate such threats, as such persons are often very hard to detect and stop. I will be praying for those killed. maimed for life, and those hurt badly. My heart goes out to them.

    1. I wouldn't usually post something like this but people know that I am from the Boston area, and people did email and IM me, so I figured it was easier to just post something here instead of answering every person one at a time.

I am going to sit back and let the people in charge do their jobs. I am also proud of the response that Boston has put forth in terms of hospitality and the outpouring of hope.

  6. My heart goes out not only to the victims and their families, but to all of the great people of Boston. Having their innocence ripped away on such a treasured day must be terrible and indescribable. I'm really glad you posted this Dee... you and your family were in my thoughts while I watched the horrors on television.

I think what saddens me the most though, is that this happened at such a major event. One where police were already on high alert... one where they were specifically working to avoid a situation like this. After 9/11 we grew used to the extra security... do we need to get used to even more now?

    1. We must be careful on we proceed with this event. Awful, tragic, and terrible yes ; we must also be alert against phony charities who are springing up to exploit people's desire to help and against those who will try to exploit it politically. Enhanced security measures, great ! But recall Ben Franklin's admonition, " Those who desire absolute security and safety deserve neither ". Or put it another way, how far are you or I willing to go ? Would you be willing to have to carry a new national identification card in your wallet and must always have it when stopped by the police, TSA, or Homeland Security ? And god help if you lose it ; paper documents proving you're "YOU " may not be enough to get out of custody ? Paranoia and fear-mongering is not the American Way ; we must work together to defeat our enemies. If we turn on each other, we do our foes work for them
      Just my two cents worth.

  8. Maybe it will come as random to you but even so not any of the spaniards in that marathon got injured, the Consul from Spain closed the Consulate and didn't want to help. He said he had no time! He got fired today

That was truly a horrendous attack. I cannot believe why someone would put a bomb in a place where there are lots of people who could suffer and even more put shrapnels to do more damage :(

Glad to see you are okay. I was really worried something could have happened :/

    Hugs and Kisses Alectra

  9. Can we please get back to the regular blog stuff now ? It was good for all of us to comment regarding what happened at the Boston Marathon and nobody will ever forget it ; however, according to the news tonight as of 4/19/13- one terrorist is dead and the other is in custody. Now we have to wait for justice to be handed out accordingly. I will remember those killed and pray for those injured.and pray also that there are no others involved. That this was the work of "Lone-Wolves ".

    1. Well, I DID post a caption on Thursday night, and an exclusive one that was only seen in one of the Haven Quarterly mags we publish as a fundraiser.

I would also say that its a bit of a bigger deal here in MA/RI than in other places. There were black helicopters flying all around yesterday, which I don't think USUALLY happens here that much!

I might have something posted tonight.
