Momma's Little Angels!

Some things will NEVER change!

Well, I was going to post this in a few days, but I know that anticipation kills, and goddess knows I probably oversold this caption that I made for Katie Mills and Hailey Pixley. I wanted to make something fun and vibrant and show how siblings interact, regardless of what gender they happen to be inhabiting at that very moment. Another subtext is how the "angelic" ones are often the people that get into the most trouble! All you former altar boys that are now hot, sexy women, raise your skirts and show your garters and hose!

Have this video posted because there is just something about LIVE music that just GETS you when its performed at the pinnacle of talent. This band is one of those that usually rose to the occasion, especially when in front of huge crowds. Its a shame that they never an album with George Michael after Freddie died. I think he's the only guy that can do Freddie justice. Adam what's his face is just a pale substitute. I wish I had been able to see Queen with Freddie Mercury but I was a bit too young for that, but whenever Paladium plays the Montreal show, I just have to stop and watch at least a few songs, and they were so much more than just Freddie, but he was the topper.

Another live band that always delivers is Iron Maiden. I've seen them a number of times and they are SO tight, even with three guitarists now. Bruce is a maniac out there on stage and its just one classic song after another. This is how you should be rocking into your 50's and 60's! In this video, he's got EVERY punter in the palm of his hand, and I can't watch this without getting chills! They are my favorite live band and "Live After Death" is probably my favorite live album/CD. Up the Irons!

DISCUSSION QUESTION: What is your favorite live album/CD? What is your favorite live version of anything you've ever heard? Which band would you go back in time to see them play live in their prime if you had the chance?

  1. Cute caption.

    I have several live highlights.
Aerosmith, playing 'Dream on'. It was an open air. the sun was setting behind the stage, Aerosmith played great. to me it was spectacular.
Melissa Etheridge playing a cover of Rod Stewards 'Maggie Mae' her whole concert was great, but this was beyond anything she did.
Brendan Crocker, small gig at a local bar. playing his guitar with a cigarette in on hand and a drink in the other. marvellous. I got to talk to him about music and what he was up to for a while.
    I could go on...
to travel back in time for a band, would be Queen for me as well

    1. I've seen Aerosmith a number of times, and own a ton of bootleg performances, and the breadth of different arrangements that "Dream On" has taken on is a testament to how good the song is. Its in my top 10 songs of all time. The band itself though is hit or miss when it comes to live performances. Sometimes you get an incredible show, or if they aren't feeling it, a lackadaisical walkthough their songs with the emotion you'd expect.

Its why I'd never turn down an invitation to see Iron Maiden. I know of only one show that really sucked performance wise, and it happened to be a PPV with a horror magician, which was the last show before Bruce left the band for 6 years.

    2. Unfortunately, I've never seen Iron Maiden live, if they come somewhere near my little corner, they're usually sold out, before I even have the chance to buy tickets. but I'm not giving up on that yet.
One I should have mentioned in my previous comment:
Dick Dale. It was a bloody hot day, and I got goose bumps when I heard him play. Come to think of it, it was probably one of the best performances I ever saw.

  2. HA! Funny cap Dee. While I can't picture my brothers dressed up as little angels (or otherwise dressed in a feminine manner), I CAN picture them arguing about anything and everything.

Beyond the local bar bands I've only seen a few live concerts. I've never really been a fan of live music. I vastly prefer to hear the studio track that they worked so hard on to be perfect. Plus as much as I love music and demand to have it around me (I always have music playing while I'm at the computer), I don't like having music be my sole focus. Music is what colors everything else in my life making happy times happier and sad times more poignant. With the life that it's coloring, music is just an unused crayon.

    1. That totally fits in with my perception of you, since your captions are usually agonized over for hours to get it JUST RIGHT.

Perfection in a studio recording and in a live setting are two different abilities and oftentimes mutually exclusive. The Beatles made some of the best recordings of all time, but as a live act they were merely pedestrian. On the other hand, I don't have much use for the Rolling Stones studio output, but their live shows are so dynamic, and its why Jagger has the reputation that he does. The TAMI show from 1966 is indicative of that magnetism, where they had to follow James Brown and did it magnificently.

    2. I never thought of it that way, but yes that does fit me. I like in music what I search for in my own art... the passion and love needed to find how close to perfection you can make this art (or music).

As I don't enjoy live music that much I can't really speak to the way bands and musicians are better either "Live" or "Studio", but I like to think of the difference in intent. In the studio a musician is striving to make art (at least I always hope they are). It's an equal participation of song writer, musicians, and producers. They all have to be at the top of their game to get it just right. Whereas a band performing live is all about pleasing their audience. It's still about music, but it's also about showmanship and performance.

    3. A band performing live is also pleasing themselves. To me, its a truer version and vision of the music that was recorded as there are so many concessions that are made from the band to the producers and the record company.

I can attribute the failures of quite a few bands and lives to the whims of the record companies. Things like forcing Quiet Riot to make another SLADE cover song after "Come on Feel the Noize" and making Warrant write an "extra song" for a b-side .. so the singer wrote a cheesy song in 10 minutes .. which the next time he went to the record company, they'd made it the lead single AND title of the whole album .. which became that classic "Cherry Pie" that lead them to bad reviews, etc ...

Not saying those bands were going to be successful anyway, but both were trying to be taken more seriously and were chopped off at the legs by their record company/producers. The whole Kelly Clarkson / Clive Davis debate is another one where the studio heads think they know better than the artist.

  3. You definitely didn't hype it up too much, Dee--in my opinion, you didn't hype it enough! ;) I love everything about it, from the white tights to the dialogue, and the threat of a little AR there at the end caps it all off! Instinct says I'm on the right, but I like the girl on the left's shoes better... =D hehe, thank you so much once again!

    1. Around here, we have a severe Bawstin accent, so everyone pronounces it kin-dah-gah-den so I'll blame it on that! I am pretty sure I spell checked it, so I'm assuming my copy of Photoshop is from Boston too!

  5. WOW!! Thanks Dee, I loved it. Communion wine, eh? LOL! I might be going back to church. I love the white outfits and the suggestion of purity with a little naughty just under the surface. Very creative and very sexy indeed. Thank you so much. I believe I already owed you a caption but this deserves a cap back as well. Expect to be capped soon. ;)

    1. I forgot to put my favorite live album. I like all the live Phish albums. An obvious one is Frampton Comes Alive. I have a few boot legs of AC/DC that are amazing as well. John Denver had a great album for a wild life concert. It is so good. I always take it camping. Sorry I left two comments. LOL!

  6. LOL great cap and the brother/sister bickering, classic...

FYI, look up "Queen Live Aid" on YouTube... often described as 20 minutes that changed music. U2 @ Live Aid also a powerful memory.

My personal fave: Cheap Trick at a minor league bball game with fireworks.

    1. Queen's Live Aid was really good. I liked U2's performance at the US Festival better since it had the "Under a Blood Red Sky" vibe to it (THAT'S also a great live EP). Cheap Trick is usually a great live act, I saw them with my parents at Spring Break 1989 in Daytona Beach, Florida when I was younger.
