Decks the Halls with Lots of Holly!

Well, its technically Christmas Eve, as its after Midnight here in this time zone. I figured I would post a BLOG EXCLUSIVE .. I like saying that! LOL I don't really create many captions that aren't for anyone specific. This one came to mind when I saw the picture. Fruitcake has become a Christmas joke nowadays here in America, as people don't seem to know how to make them, and its an acquired taste to be sure. I'm pretty sure the photo is not showing an actual fruitcake, but hey, suspension of disbelief and all that, right? Everyone needs a weird aunt that is probably into the Dark Arts, right? That keeps us on our toes, probably painted fire engine red!

I trust that everyone will have a great holiday season, whether it was spinning a dreidel, airing your grievances around a Festivus pole, calling out the corners at the Winter Solstice, celebrating the arrival of baby Jesus, bowing down the commercial God of Santa Claus, or whatever you do when Kwanzaa arrives. I hope all those you care about have a safe and secure holiday season as well.

I am not sure I'll be posting again before Monday, as Sunday will be a huge travel day with the Mentia Familia visiting most of the "spousal" relatives that live multiple hours away. Not looking forward to the drive up and back, but I do look forward to the Prime Rib. Her family really knows how to celebrate deliciously!

If I do post before then, it might be the entry I posted for last year's Christmas Caption Contest (or was it 2009?) that was relatively tasteless, hence my absolute joy in making it! Depends on how much Egg Nog and Meatballs I consume at the Christmas Eve parties we hit tomorrow evening.

DISCUSSION TOPIC: If you want to leave holiday messages, please go right ahead. As a gift to those who caption, leave a message here, and if you want, I'll give you a photo or two I have saved on my hard drive that I think you might find useful in making a caption. What better than me sliding a hand in your stocking and giving you a gift?!? Just make note in the comment that you want the Christmas Goose!

  1. Feliz navidad and merry christmas, Feliz año nuevo and I wish you a happy new year Dee ^-^

Ouh that's sounds like fun going around with the Mentia family, of course if the are goths like you, that would be like going with the osbourne family too *giggle*

Nah just joking... for special cakes, we have in spain one very special which is called "Roscón de Reyes" sometimes like bagel of kings, unfortunately there is not an inmediately traduction so that the most accurate I could come to make you and idea *giggle*

Basically is made of crystallized fruit (candied), puff pastry and with cream if you want it... but that is optional.

This bagel is filled with little gifts (with an envelope of course!) and there is a tradition of that the one that get the king (a metallic figurine), gets to be king of the house for a day. There is also grapes and if you caught that one, you pay for the bagel *giggle*

    It would be like that!

We also eat "mantecados" and "polvorones" that would be like buns made of chocolate or with coconut flavour or with a lemon flavour, cinnamon flavour or filled with a hint of wine too, with differents forms and colors as well as for adults and kids! ^-^

With that said I hope you have a great Christmas with your loved ones ^-^

  5. Hmmm, no one wants gift pictures to caption? LOL

    @ Alectra

I think it might be German or Hungarian, but my GF's family has this tradition where there is a pickle ornament placed somewhere inside the tree, and the person who finds it get a prize.

The first year we were together, I thought she was being frisky when she said that we'd have to "hide the pickle"!

  6. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! I wanted to make sure I gave a seasons greeting to some of the best friends a girl could ask for. You girls put a smile on my face when I don't even think I have it in me. ^_^ Thank you all very much and have a wonderful holiday! *kisses*

  7. Merry Chrismas to everyone out there.

I passed a nice Christmas Eve with my brother and his family. It's just too bad that we don't have the stamina as before when we were able to made a night of it.
I drove home only half an hour after midnight, but was still to churned to go to bed. So I made a birthday cap a Haven member and watched TV for a few hours.
Since I was little our family gathered together on Christmas Eve, then recovered a bit on Christmas Day before we celebrated again on the day after Christmas with the family and some close friends.
Times have changed a bit since my mom died some years ago and my dad moved back to Denmark, but I still can feel the Christmas spirit in most people around me.
As feast we always use to have a pork roast made in special Danish way, however why not try out the Goose you are offering?
