Fast and Furious Wishing!

This caption was actually inspired by the episode of Family Guy. At one point Peter wishes that he had a soundtrack for his life, so he has walking music, sexy music for when Lois and him are intimate, and when he's riding on the bus. Of course, he ends up boneless, but that is another story. You can find the whole episode on Netflix.

I figured it might be cool to have life that was officially recorded so you could watch anything that happened, rewind, etc ... From there, it became a porno life. After that, I saw this picture and the way Gwen is looking towards the lens brought this idea to mind my and I immediately had to caption it.

It certainly doesn't reinvent the wheel, with the misguided wishes, and whatnot .. but it sure is fun, isn't it?

I enjoy making little quickies like this, especially when I offer 2 for 1 deals, because I can try things I wouldn't necessarily do otherwise. I am working on different sorts of gradient backgrounds, and while I probably did a bit too much black in this one, it probably works better that way.

DISCUSSION QUESTION: If you had three wishes, would you try to wish them earnestly and hope they weren't twisted by the offering Djinn or Genie? Or would you deliberately make them obtuse so that you could get exactly what you wanted? I am expecting LOTS of comments here, even after I've posted the next topic. What exactly would you wish for?

  1. This idea reminds me of playing Dungeons and Dragons. I was the DM at the time and one of the characters got a genie's lamp. He was granted three wishes, and of course I had a blast destroying his wishes. I don't remember the specifics of the first two wishes, but they were twisted into curses fairly easily as he put no thought into them. He vowed as a character and as a player to get the third wish just right, so that there could be no manipulation.

He spent eight months writing up his wish. Literally eight months. Our characters had many MANY adventures in the mean time. All the while he was writing up what ended up being a five page wish. If I'm remembering it correctly the wish was for gold. He figured any wish for power, magic or change in his self would be to easily changed into ill, so he wrote out exactly how the genie would gather, and deliver his gold. As a player he went to all of us trying to get the wording right and as a character he went to every intelligent and wise character and NPC that would help him to get the wish just right.

After all that thought and effort.... I twisted it into a curse.

When I think of it that way, I don't believe that it is possible to write out a wish 'obtuse' enough to get exactly what you want. With that in mind I would make my first wish and hope for the best. If the wish turned out well enough, I would continue with my next two wishes. If it turned out badly, I would drop the dijinn like a cheating boyfriend and be done with it.

  2. OH, and as to the wishes themselves. It would depend on my current circumstances, but they would all be variations on peace, prosperity and long life for me and mine.

  3. I like twisted wishes and great story Caitlyn.

I agree that there is no way one can word a wish so that it can never be twisted. Just think about how hard lawyers go about writing contracts and they still can be twisted and left to interpretation and that is operating within our non-magical world. Where magic is involved there would be no limits and no one can express in words every single bit of imagination.

  4. I would always be wary of anything that grants me wishes. I once had an internship where I watched committee members argue of the language of legal documents and laws going into effect, so any wish I was given would have to be carefully considered.

  5. I'm so friggin miserable I figure anything has got to be better this world is on a crash path so what the hell.... As for what I would wish for.... My avatar at the haven. No surpise here not to have her.... to be her..... and if it got twisted.... oh well.... that's the chance I take

  6. This reminds me of the scene at the end of the nerd movie Gamers: Dorkness Rising (Caitlyn and any other present or former D&D players, you have to watch that movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwtH5oQqHPg and if you want to buy the DVD http://deadgentlemen.com/projects/the-gamers/the-gamers-dorkness-rising/). Anyway there's a big blow-up at the end of that movie where one player gets a wish and doesn't do what is expected. Sorry that's a big aside and doesn't answer the question, but I had to throw in a plug because I love that movie.

Anyway, I'm not sure what I would wish for. I guess financial security would be nice. I don't really want wealth, but enough money to pay off my house and live comfortably would be nice. That would be wish #1. For wish #3 I would reserve that for putting things back if they got too screwed up. For the middle wish ... well I don't know what I would do with that. So many possibilities .... It would depend on my mood at the time I think.
