Up the Staircase Quickly! Just Use Short Strides!

How can magic captions be grounded in reality? Well, I've been doing them for many years now!

I planned on having this Friday, the start of my 4 day weekend(!) to do a bunch of captions and get a lot of things done .. and ended up sleeping most of the day! Guess I was a bit sicker than I thought!

Anyway, because of this, I'm posting a caption from 9+ years ago, as its something I try to keep going back to, keeping my captions centered somehow in reality, even when stretching the bounds of what can be, and what we know they cannot be. If you weren't around then, this is probably new to you!

Here's what I wrote then:

I made this caption "realistic" even though it involves magic. How is it realistic, you ask? Well, first off, if someone on the street turned you into a woman, would you really be cocky and demanding, all "you change me back right now or I'll ..." Dude, she just turned you into a chick, what makes you think you have ANY power whatsoever?!? You would probably do what Jake did in this caption, run home to his wife, try to convince her of what happened, and see if she could fix things. Well, at least that is what I think. Your results may vary!

I like captions that are grounded in reality, yet have that magical nature to it. Perhaps it is comforting to think that situations exist slightly to the left of real perception? Not sure what it is, but maybe my fine readers can enlighten me!

DISCUSSION QUESTION:  How grounded in reality should "magic" TG captions be? Should it be totally realistic, except for the method of change? Should it be a total flight of fancy?  Somewhere in between?

I really wasn't always as verbose as I am now. So how long ago was this posting? Well, the comments included people like : Petra, Smitty, Caitlyn Masked (as a newbie!) the other Kaitlyn, and Jennifer! talk about a murderer's row of captioners with what, like 6,000 captions between them? To read their comments, CLICK HERE! Feel free to add to a new discussion down below or talk about the caption. It really is amazing how far we've all come in ten years!

Well, not that far, as this was the number one song in 2010!

  1. This caption certainly stood the test of time, as well as the discussion back then.

As some already said back then, the amount of realism and magic should depend on who is the recipient.
I myself like realistic reactions after the transformation, but what is a realistic reaction? If an unexpected transformation would occur, without any mind altering, I guess most people would get in survival mode. First they would try to figure out what happened, what do they have on them, how can they get by, and who can they turn to. Only after that they would either be in denial, panic, embrace it or any other kind of reaction, depending on the persons character. Hiding behind the wife, like here, is a plausible reaction. While the survival mode is a real reaction and fun to write, putting it in every caption would be boring, because it's the part that comes next that's interesting, because everybody is different, and even in similar situations someone can act totally different.
I get why people see the use of magic as lazy writing, but on the other hand it it removes the need for lengthy explanaitions. That way it can be considered brevity.

That said, if I would write a cap for someone who fantasizes about becoming a sex crazed slut after the transformation looking for as many man meat she can find to fill her up, why wouldn't I facilitate that, and throw realism out the window for that cap. (Okay, I'm not comfortable writing hard core porn, but that's another discussion)

The only thing is, weather someone writes a totally realistic cap, no magic whatsoever or a cap that's completely magical, so no realism from A to Z, or anything in between, everyone should follow the rules of their own story, no matter how short it is.

    1. I think it shows how far TG captions have come in the 9-10 years since this was originally posted. As you might have mentioned, one of the big complaints back then was the "Zap! I am now a woman! ME wants to fuck and suck many mens! 24 hour orgies from now on!" We've really seem to have drifted away from that!
