Something in the caption tells me that Damien isn't feeling too sour about not finding the pickle!
This actually was the first Christmas caption that I wrote this year, a week or two before Halloween! I just loved the tree, the ridiculous neon blue reindeer, and of course, the models lovely legs, dress, hair, body and everything about her. I held it back to see who I could let be the star in it, but ultimately, and especially because no one really asked to be in a caption this year .. that *I* should be the belle of the Christmas Ball.
For those who don't know what the pickle tradition for Christmas is all about, and I didn't until my current girlfriend explained the tradition back when we first met .. let's go to Wikipedia:
The Christmas pickle is a Christmas tradition for some people in the United States and Canada. A decoration in the shape of a pickle is hidden on a Christmas tree, with the finder receiving either a reward or good fortune for the following year. There are a number of different origin stories attributed to the tradition, including an origination in Germany. This theory has since been discounted, and it is now thought to be an American tradition created in the late 19th century. So of course, I took a different approach since I'm writing TG captions. I'm guessing a family that goes back many generations with their magical pickle .. maybe to ensure many descendants? I mean .. become a girl on Christmas, conceive a child on Valentine's Day, and give birth around Thanksgiving or so? Sounds reasonable enough back 150 years ago when fecundity wasn't a given to keep the family name alive. Traditions are just weird things we do that somehow become routine.
Thank you once again for following me down the TG captioning path again this year, and over the last week with lots of holiday merriment. I strive to continue onward in 2018 .. and at some point soon I will be posting my favorites of the past 12 months.
I cherish each and everyone who visits this site, and especially those who make their voices known in the comments. I look forward to your feedback, and wish you the blessings each and everyone in your friends and family deserve .. Please remain safe and have the merriest Christmas ever!
i\I don't think I'd even show up to look for it. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWell, you HAVE to appear like you are trying! Otherwise, they'll wonder why you aren't and then no one will go looking for it.
DeleteLater he gave the boy the toy truck he'd promised him if he broke the pickle!!!
ReplyDeleteI also doubt that I'd show up or search all that hard...
Love

You just have to sort of go through the motions at least!
DeleteI wouldn't put it past Damien at all you know. That guy is pretty damn slick!
He will have to make do with a pickled gherkin and two pickled onions from now on.
ReplyDeleteFrom a jar. At least until next year .. if there IS a next year. Does the pickle rejuvenate itself if it breaks? Who knows?
DeleteHmm, sounds like a tradition our family could get into.
ReplyDeleteSince my dad's side of the family has the women do dishes on holidays (sexist I know, but true) dish pan hands would be the major downside! Otherwise, I'm all for it!
