The Blond Sheep in the Family!

I've never liked the feel of wool. How about you?

Made this one about two weeks ago, almost simply on a whim. I like the way the picture was constructed and the contrast between the girls was remarkable. In it, I saw a kernel of familiarity that I'm sure many of us in the community feel, and I wanted to bring it out front, while also having fun with it. Just a little quickie and not for anyone in particular.

I am not quite a black sheep in my family, as we are more of a black branch on the family tree. My dad was the black sheep so I guess I am a black lamb? My daughter is definitely a black ewe. There is a family portrait that still hangs in my grandma's house, and we are stuck in the corner (this was before my daughter was born and my mom was still alive, maybe 1992?) and look like we were photoshopped in. I don't think the portrait photographer knew what to do with us. "Are you sure you are related to these, people? The coupon says family members only!"

I've always taken in in stride, with the motto being, "if they weren't your family, you'd never hang out with any of them!" and they probably feel the same way about me and my loved ones too. I only see them maybe 5-6 times a year though for holidays we only live about 5 miles away, and it is probably why we still get along decently. Every time we go to Grandma's house for an event, I make sure to take a few tylenol with me, as they are al very loud. You leave talking 20 decibels louder than when you showed up. We all do love each other, though one of my most infamous moments happened when someone was complaining about how my cousin's ex was screwing him over in regards to the divorce. My reply was,"Well, he probably shouldn't have stuck his dick in a nurse, right?" Somehow we still made it through Thanksgiving dinner without someone throwing stuffing at me!

DISCUSSION QUESTION: Anyway, let me know .. are you the black sheep in your family? or are you one of the more normal ones? Do any of them know about your proclivities online or in real life in regards to things of a TG nature like you are reading about here?

    1. I had a feeling this might be the case of many of the people here. Glad you are one of them!

You are right there is always one, i have an ex late 60s early 70s groupie.hippy aunt she is great fun and on the other side an uncle who was in a number 1 charting act late 60s but i have not seen him for ages as i think a heavy drinker. i guess it is me of my family but nothing to dark i was the longhair smoker of jazz cigarettes and as far as i know the only one who has been arrested (nothing nasty)
almost forgot have an openly gay hairdresser uncle as well and my father was a ton up motorcyclist rocker

    1. Well, normal in your own way! At least your family were all different sorts of individuals.

  3. Fun cap Dee! I can see where the image would inspire a cap! My first thought with the image was along the lines of a replication error in the feminizing gun. But that's just me!

I am most certainly the black sheep in my family. From my career choice(s), to my taste in music, to my environmental and society stances. I'm the one that constantly has to shut up and not piss everybody else off. None of my family (nor anybody outside of this online community) knows about my TG proclivities. I'd imagine some would be shocked and horrified... others would just mutter under their breath "that makes sense". Sigh.

    1. Do they finally respect your medical knowledge? Or are you still like 15 years old in their eyes and cant imagine you being all authoritative and scholarly in the ways of healing?

I feel bad for people that are like 40 and their family still calls them Skippy or Tank, something like that. Most people at work call him Mister, or Yes SIr! and they are all, "I remember when Bubs would try to eat cake batter off the mixer, even when the blades were still moving!"

    2. I think they respect my knowledge when it's applied to other people. It's just assumed that i know what I'm talking about to a patient. But when it's directed at them, it's minimized. I actually don't mind that too much... it's hard to be a nurse to my family. I see them as Mom, or Brother, or Cousin and not Patient. They see me as Son, or Brother, or Cousin and not Nurse. I think they were happier when I was a photographer as that fit into my 'odd' personality better.

    3. Well, I remember reading earlier about how they didn't think to talk to you when medical concerns were brought up, especially when your mom was ill and went to the hospital. Like they were, "you aren't a 'hospital' nurse! like being a nurse someplace else meant it was a totally different job!"

I am sort of surprised they don't use you as a medical fount of info. We have one relative that is and everyone always calls her ALL the time, just like whenever there is a tech / internet / cable / mobile phone / stereo / digital watch(!) issue.
