Quoth the Potter ...

.. Dumbledore!

I honestly know VERY little about Harry Potter and the world he inhabits, which is why I had fun making this caption. Its also based on an assumption I hope is true, that the model *IS* Emma Watson, or a very close likeness of her. Otherwise it sort of falls flat, especially since it was made for someone with the screenname of Celebswap. Like I said, I've managed to avoid the entire franchise, other than that my GF is incredibly into it. She owns all the movies on Bluray, which still doesn't stop her from watching it on the weekends on whatever cable station always seems to be playing them in order.

She's been trying to get them in digital format for quite some time now. Its not that she doesn't want to pay, but apparently you can only get them at Rowling's website, and they only take credit cards that are international. Since we use debit cards, we can't seem to purchase it. Its all a rather, "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" proposition where I guess she figures she's rich enough that she doesn't have to deal with Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or Google Books? So I went searching the other day, and kept asking, "how many books are there?" and she kept saying, "Seven plus a few that aren't technically 'books' but are part of the canon." and I kept repeating, ":but weren't there like EIGHT movies?" and if you actually follow Potter, you already know the answer! When I saw this picture, this discussion immediately came to mind and I just HAD to write it out in Photoshop.

Any information about Harry Potter that I know, is mostly due to osmosis and/or the buying of gifts for the GF, like the knee socks of her favorite divisions of schools. They are different schools right? Then why are they all eating together? Something tells me I'd need to learn about the structure of British education and frankly, I don't feel like poking Joanna right now!

I do know that at one point, and possibly even now, many fundamentalist Christians are all, "Harry Potter is teaching children about sorcery and is a pathway to Satan!" I figured I would work that in too since I'm all about demonology,  evil, and all that cool stuff you learned on street corners. So, four paragraphs in on a caption that literally took me 5 minutes to write and I've been much more verbose than I thought I would.

Thought I was going to post up "Abracadabra" by Steve Miller, didn't you? This is a much better 1980's song about magic. Hope you enjoy the caption, Potterheads!

I couldn't pass up posting this song either. Its from Weird Al's new CD, and it goes out to all my captioning friends .. maybe we call all learn something from the song!

  1. Loved the cap dee :D its really cute. It's a great combination of a lovely pic, cute story and the motivation is so cute I can look over your hp world ignorance. Yes, that is Emma Watson, the star who played Hermione Granger in the coveted hp series (it is something of a cult). Thanks for hitting one of my many fandoms, except this one is my first, and I liked how you worked in the lack of knowledge in the field into something that irks us all... Movie splitting (and they still miss out on things) sorry about my fangirling, it's hard enough to tame this down to a acceptable level :)... Oh and don't count on that eighth book Jk officially said its not happening :( (unless you count that awesome sequel chapter that was released a week ago) once again lovely, cute and beautiful cap.

    1. So glad you liked it, and I'm glad that we have Potterheads here that would at least understand what I was trying to get across, aka there are more movies than books due to them splitting the last book into 2 movies. It also sort of harkens back to "Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy" being a FIVE book trilogy!

Be a fangirl! There is nothing wrong in doing so! If every person could be so passionate about any one thing, the world would be a much better place. I am just not really a fiction fan, and when the story first came out, I thought it sounded a bit like "The Worst Witch" that was on HBO in the 80's with that glorious Tim Curry appearance! I am for anything that will get kids to read and donated to the Reading Rainbow Kickstarter.

    2. I believe the true magic of a book, is reading itself. And Harry Potter managed to excite that in thousands of children. And that is magic

  2. Ah, I just LOVE that pic of her! =D I'd long since given up on trying to cap this one myself, but of course, you pick up where I left off... ;)

    1. I had the picture for a bit as well, but hadn't really thought about how to use it, as I mentioned above, I really don't know much about Harry Potter. We just ended up with a newbie on the Haven with Celebswap as their name so it made sense to me, especially as the GF and I had just been talking about the books a few days beforehand. I guess it was just serendipity on my part that I was able to use it!

  3. Unpoked, unsolicited, but here nevertheless!

Hogwarts has a House system, akin to fraternities and sororities but for students in 'secondary schools' in the UK. Hogwarts follows a pretty established UK model with students ranging from 11-16 and then an attached 'Sixth Form' for students from 16-18 - all educated by Year Group. A House system (there are four in Hogwarts) merely allows elder students and younger students to mingle. Not all schools have a House system, I have no idea how prevalent it is in the UK (possibly a minority?) and certainly Hogwarts is unique.

Hope that helps and hasn't got too confusing!

    1. so its like a frat, but has both sexes involved in its activities? Do they get to choose which one they wish to be in or is it an assigned thing? I can't imagine too many people wanting to be in the evil one!

    2. Mostly, in real life, there's no choice.

In Hogwarts there's a magical sorting hat. It's... fine until one analyses it, then questions arise: why would *anyone* want Slytherin or Hufflepuff? The latter is essentially for the victims who are also slow-witted or just a bit pap at everything. David Mitchell does a nice skit as the Head of Hufflepuff somewhere on the internet.

Yes, it's a frat with both sexes.

    3. In Asutralia we have a similar house system, but its not very patriotic... And the book display of houses is very biased, infact you only ever hear about 20 students in each year. It is implied in the book that there are hundreds, and for the sake of simplicity is kept to a select group of named individuals. So Harry sees the judgment of the houses, Slytherin are just meant to be ambitious, hufflepuffs kind (though willing to ditch that statement went people make judgements about their house on pottermore.. Admittedly I wanted to be in ravenclaw, but hufflepuff was my second preference.

  4. ITS along time since I've been to school (age not truant) but UK private school might keep the house and eating systems but state schools are not like this. I should think they are like any USA school but minus cheerleaders :(
I think the UK in films is misleading its like me thinking the USA is still cowboys and Indians.
I've not followed Harry Potter either love the caption and the missing eight book.

    1. I dunno, some state schools have house systems too. It has connotations of the old grammar system so that may explain the connection with private institutions. Of course, the waters are muddied now with academies and Free Schools.
