Happy Father's Day!!

Bass is only four strings, how hard can it be?

Sorry I haven't been around. Had a few issues to take care of, including my daughter having a staph infection, which meant ER surgery to remove a piece of her upper thigh. She's now on antibiotics and the packing is coming out of the wound tomorrow. Can't describe how horrible it is to see your offspring crying out in pain (and swearing her ass off) and all you can do is reassure her that it'll stop at some point when then are done removing the infected stuff inside the wound.

Hope everyone has a good Father's Day, remembering all the things you Dad did for you that you might not have noticed at the time but found out about later. Dad's can be quite stealthy in their help, making you think you did everything on your own, but guiding you along as best they could. Also hope that if you are a Father you are held in high regards today by friends and family!

These are good songs about Fathers, but I think the best song has the Dad as an adversary.

Happy Father's Day everyone!

  1. Ouch. I hope your daughter is feeling better soon and that the infection is long gone. That whole thing right there has got to be awful. My thoughts are with you all, Dee.

    On a more spurious note...

"Cats in the Cradle" is the song that is guaranteed to make me tear up every time. "My son was just like me" is the single most poignant line in virtually any of the music I listen to. If it catches me at the wrong moment it will have me sniffling and teary eyed enough to pull over in the car for a bit.

Still, lovely caption and awesome music choices!

    1. Never understood why it was a good song until i became a parent. Then you realize that time is much quicker than you think it is!

  3. My best wishes to you and your daughter as well.
I don't have children, so I can only imagine that the feeling of helplessness you describe is even worse with your children than with anyone else close to you, in a situation like this.

I have to admit that in the years since my father passed away Father's Day has become more and more a regular day to me. On the other hand I still remember him every regular day, the good times we had together...
And even the hard times I cherish.

You had some great songs chosen for Father's Day, although I don't have an emotional link with any of them towards my father. Even though there is a Dutch song which has the same effect on me as "Cats in the cradle" has on Joanna.

  4. Still blessed that my Dad is alive. A great day. Also, my prayers for your daughters health. Oh, and I love the CAP. Nice Job. >:)

  5. First off, great caption Dee. I'm sure 'Devastating Diva' will re-learn how to play Bass just fine. Of course dealing with the groupies will be an entirely different experience!

Second, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. It's surprising just how bad a staph infection can get. I hope she comes out fine.

Lastly, I'm glad you wrote something up for Fathers Day. For the most part I ignore the holiday as remembering my father just makes me all that more sad for his loss. This is my seventh fatherless Father's Day and it doesn't get any easier. I think one reason it's so hard is that I don't feel that I've moved on enough since his passing. Seven years spent spinning my wheels wouldn't exactly make him proud.

The song I associate with him the most is one I listened to while he was sick. Landslide as played by Smashing Pumpkins. Some of the lyrics work like "Can the child within my heart rise above. Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides. Can I handle the seasons of my life" but mostly it's the emotional resonance the song has. It's soft sad guitar along with the hopeful sounding singing gets to me every time.

You are most definitely right... Dad's can be VERY stealthy in their help. I never really had a lot of direct intervention from Dad. He never sat me down and told me what I needed to do. Instead he lived his life as a real man and just inspired me to live the same. To this day I aspire to be just like him.

I really appreciate it, and hope I can get back to a somewhat regular posting schedule again.
