What's My Motivation?

Don't you know its impolite to stare? Bueller? Bueller?

Made this one awhile back when we had a Caption Contest on the Haven involving either a motivational poster or a LOLcats (cheezburger). I think everyone knows what a motivational poster is, and there is now something called a de-motivational poster, which has taken on a life of its own .. some of which you can see HERE

Pretty much the setup is a word or two in big letters, and then some sort of aphorism, pithy saying, or definition intended to inspire or think. I loved making them because I am often not one for verbosity, and you don't have to add a lot of detail. In fact, just a sentence or two with a stinger is the preferred way to write one.

So why haven't I created more of them? Well, other than the fact that I really hadn't thought about them for awhile ..they tend not to work well for caption trades, which is still around 90 percent of my output since I started back in 2008 or so. I am not sure that most people want something THIS open ended and vague, especially if they put a good amount of time making a caption specifically for me.

I also made a LOLcats caption but it was way too vague so I don't think I even submitted it. Five words and I think I misspelled cock in it, which probably should be cawk. Anyone out there speak fluent, "I CAN HAZ CHEEZBURGER?"

I couldn't any further without mentioning another musical death. Dave Brockie, aka Oderus Unrungus, was truly one of a kind. I know some people take them as a bit of a joke band, but there wasn't nothing left to chance with GWAR. The stage show, and the music, was always over the top, but you can't deny their imaginations or their skill at both stage props and musical ability. It was done all tongue in cheek, and they offended everyone. Brockie was Trey and Matt from South Park 12 years before there WAS a South Park.

Even Fox News got it, as Oderus was their "interplanetary correspondent" on Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld, until Sarah Palin found out that Gwar was beheading her on stage and got him fired. Never mind that they have beheaded every president on stage, regardless of political party affiliation. Even Joan Rivers liked him back when they were first starting out.

From Joan to Jerry Springer to Geraldo .. they all loved Gwar because they were so entertaining, and that was mostly due to the talents of Dave Brockie. We will miss you Oderus!

  1. there is nothing more depressing than the corporate motivational poster. I work for a major us car manufacture who I am sure have a marketing department devoted to annoying me !

  2. Love these Dee-motivational posters. They bring a smile and a thought.
If you love making them, you could make a caption offer for them. A Dee-motivational for a (de-)motivational.
And if that doesn't work, you could always make some blog only for your own amusement, entertaining us in the process.

Fortunately we are spared over here with real motivational posters in most companies.

I missed the passing of Dave Brockie until I read it here. Indeed he will be missed.

  3. Shane's last project was a bust--so we rewarded him appropriately!
